The upcoming e-book from CAOS Publishing by Author, Mediator and Conflict Coach Alan Sharland “3-Cheers for Conflict” – An Opportunity for Learning, Connection and Insight. Conflict Resolution Without Needing Others to Change gives a detailed exploration of the ineffective ways in which we respond to conflict, and thus fail to resolve it, followed by an explanation of the features of any resolved conflict.
By comparing the ineffective and effective ways of responding to conflict Alan shows us how we can recognise why we are failing to resolve our experience of any particular conflict and learn to change our responses in a way that helps us to do so.
The book is a tool that can be picked up in any conflict situation we are experiencing with another person or persons that can enable a creative approach to be taken towards resolution which, in turn, supports our own self-empowerment.
A feature of any unresolved conflict is a sense of powerlessness arising from our belief that others should change, but they don’t. This book helps us to let go of our dependence on others to be different to who they are before we can find a sense of peace.
“Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict.” – Dorothy Thompson
The book explains the features of any resolved conflict as ‘Learning, Connection and Insight’ – the “3-Cheers” of the title and looks at how one or more of these can be consciously created in any situation where a conflict is presently unresolved.
Alan draws upon his 20 years of experience working in Mediation, Conflict Management Training and Conflict Coaching to create this book and shares his insights into how people he has worked with have resolved their conflicts in situations that had previously been stuck, sometimes for many years.
The book considers examples taken from workplaces, family situations, neighbour disputes, complaints against organisations, community conflict and even conflict amongst a group of small, wild birds, to illustrate both ineffective and effective ways of responding to a dispute.
- If you have been stuck in a difficult situation, with someone you find to be difficult and you are looking for a way out of it, this book will help you with that.
- If you want to understand why some situations of conflict, whether your own, or others’, just keep going and never seem to end, this book will help you with that.
- If you want to know what it is that people do when they actually resolve conflict, so that you can start to actively benefit from others’ experiences of resolution, this book will help you with that.
